However, those punches are still avoidable when the player is in either the far left or far right side, and if there is no way to escape, it's ideal to just duck and shoot at the same time. He is now able to throw a punch using his own fist instead of morphing himself, and the range is longer. In Simple mode, there are now two different heights of jumps. However, due to his body being larger, there is less room to dodge. Goopy still bounces around like he did in his first phase, but he takes slightly more time doing it.He reuses his two previous attacks, but they are more powerful and harder to dodge to some extent: In this phase, Goopy grows about twice as large after eating a jellybean and gains some brown eyebrows. "I'm a handsome slime bringing pain - one bounce at a time!" He spawns three pink question marks while he transforms, which are crucial to getting an A-Rank or an S-Rank as they are the only objects in this boss battle that can be parried, and getting those ranks require you to parry at least three objects. He then grows twice as large as his original form. The telegraph duration of him pulling back increases and decreases in Simple and Expert mode respectively.Īfter taking enough hits, Goopy will eventually stop and swallow a pill. He also automatically changes directions depending on where the player(s) is, and continues bouncing where he is facing afterwards. Crouching underneath the attack also dodges it, while giving the player(s) an opportunity to shoot him point blank. The range of his punch is relatively short, so the player(s) can dodge it easily by running or dashing away. Occasionally, he stops bouncing, pulls most of his body back, then throws himself towards the player(s), turning himself into a giant blue boxing glove and yelling "PTOO!" to punch them.

In Expert mode, Goopy bounces much faster, with higher acceleration when jumping, and he falls faster. In Simple mode, there is a longer delay between jumps, and he can only bounce with one jump pattern. When he hits the side while he is descending, he simply drops straight down, covering where dead spots in the corners would be if he always bounced off the side of the screen. When he hits the side of the screen while still ascending, he bounces off it and the arc continues in the opposite direction. He has two type of jumps, one is lower and one is higher. He can also randomly take longer to bounce to mix up his rhythm. "With a face like mine is it a crime to be bouncing all the time?"Īs the battle commences, Goopy Le Grande begins to bounce around the area in hope of crushing the player(s), which can be avoided by moving around or dashing out of the way. He also may be seen to be tricky, as implied in how he uses a jellybean to grow big in Phase 2.Īs the battle begins deep inside the forest, Goopy tips his cap as a greeting to Cuphead and Mugman.

However, he seems to hold respect for his opponents, as he makes a cap-tipping gesture using the top his head to Cuphead and Mugman in his opening animation. Goopy acts incredibly narcissistic and overconfident in combat, always commenting on how handsome he is, even as a gravestone, as seen in his death screen. In his final form, he manifests as an angry face on a grey gravestone with a cross on top, displaying the term "RIP" (Rest In Peace). During Phase 2, he grows to double his normal size. Hopefully, having these written out, or the couple of tips within, have been of some help. This guide being cut and dry was no exaggeration. Let your EX meter fill all the way up (5 cards) and press the EX shoot button to unleash your currently equipped Super Art. It's easiest to practice parrying on the pink spiked balls in the first run & gun stage. Learning to parry is your key to success pushing through the game since parrying gives you 1 EX charge. In some games, there's a slight delay between jump -> contact -> parry but here in Cuphead, there is no delay and it must be done at the exact moment of contact. The game goes over this a bit, but it's tricky to actually do as you have to jump and press the jump button again right as you touch a pink projectile to parry it. You generally dash more often than you use your EX shot, so it may be more comfortable to have dash set to B (XB1)/Circle (PS4) and EX shoot to Y (XB1)/Triangle (PS4). One tip I do want to mention is that if you are having trouble with the controls using a controller, things may be easier if you swap the buttons for dash and EX shoot.

This guide's pretty cut and dry and covers the default buttons/keys for the keyboard, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 controllers (for those using a PS4 controller on their PC).
